Her VUE: Vanessa of The Primpy Sheep

Over the last few months, the VUE by SEK team has been interviewing ladies in the D.C. area to highlight their view on life, work and creativity. We interviewed Vanessa of The Primpy Sheep and chatted about design, travel, and her favorite drinks. Vanessa is a blogger based in Baltimore, MD and spends her time exploring the area with her husband and their Russell Terrier, Otis. Below, Vanessa talks about fashion and what she’s looking forward to this Spring.

1. Introduce yourself! Tell us about yourself and your business.

I started The Primpy Sheep in October 2017 as a way to build my style resume for future gigs in fashion, whether freelance or full-time. It doesn’t hurt that being a blogger and influencer is a lot of fun, too! My blog is a place to curate and share the things I love with the world. I’m passionate about travel, textiles, and design, so my posts are framed around those themes.

2. What brought you to start a style blog and writing about fashion?

Last June my term as president of the Baltimore chapter of AIGA, the professional association of design, ended. I gained back a ton of free time that I knew I needed to channel into a new side-hustle. I had briefly tried to get a blog started before grad school but it fizzled. I almost went to school for fashion – it’s always been a passion – so I felt like it was something I had to try again or I would always regret it.

3. What’s your VUE? Tell us about your signature style.

I’m really about investing in quality, so I don’t chase trends unless they work with my personal style. I shop with “future me” in mind – is it a piece I’ll still be excited about in 10 years? I’ve been thinking that way since I was a teenager, and it’s paid off – I have an Armani top in my closet that I’ve had since I was 16, and Stuart Weitzman boots that I get re-soled every year that I’ve had since college. My style is classic, elegant, with a little bit of a quirky vintage twist.

4. What are you looking forward to in the Spring season?

I’m looking forward to not having to wear socks – my pumps and strappy sandals are calling! I’m also excited for longer days. It’s so tough to get out of bed when it’s still dark out.

5. How did you design your custom VUE by SEK pairing?

I love the juxtaposition of the round silver and rectangular jade – there’s an organic feel to it, and the colors are so complementary. I also knew the pale green would show up well against my short hair. It’s tricky to get earrings to pop when your hair is constantly around your ears!
